Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. Revelation 3:20
When we read this scripture I wonder how many people actually think of the door knob used to open the door! That’s what came to mind as I read this verse, so I wanted to actually take eyes off the door and place them on the next step – turning the door knob.
The gold backplate reminds me of the purity of the Lord. The glass knob reminds me that I am transparent before Him; and the keyhole reminds me that Jesus is the key that unlocks the door to all that my God has for me. The glass knob sparkles as the twinkle in my eye that the Lord sees.
The shape of the backplate keeps me pointed toward the cross. I can visualize Jesus on it with his arms stretched out and his feet crossed. I can see his broad shoulders which help to carry my load.
The screws that hold the door remind me of the nails that were placed in my Savior’s hands, as he went to the cross to bear my sins. And the shadow of the backplate reminds me that I dwell in the shadow of the Almighty. The two screws also remind me of the two foot prints there are, when the Lord is carrying me.
The six little rectangles at the top of the backplate remind me of the six days it took the Lord to create the world, yet, on the seventh day he rested. And the black color shows me the darkness I was once in before He brought me into the Light.
The design on the door knob lets me know that the Lord has a design (a plan) for my life and that as I follow Him, the things I do daily fit into that plan. The circles around the knob are a reminder that sometimes I have walked seven times around the mountain before I have learned what the Holy Spirit was teaching me.
When I look through the keyhole it gives me hope, that there is something more beautiful and everlasting on the other side. I also see that the Lord brings good through all my trials and tests that come my way in this life.
The black crosshatch marks on the backplate show me how scattered and messed up life was without the Lord.
So you see there is great meaning in the door knob. You just have to look at it and draw from what the Lord has placed in you heart!
